Robert 'Bob' Preston Johnson
Robert "Bob" Preston Johnson passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, in Lakeview, Oregon.
Bob was born on March 18, 1946, in Lakeview, Oregon, to Preston "Pete" and Kathryn (Beebe) Johnson.
Bob worked summers as a kid cowboying in the desert. He graduated from Lakeview High in 1964, and attended Southern Oregon College (SOC) and Oregon State University, then left to join the Army in 1968. Bob served in Vietnam from July 1969 to July 1970 as a Heavy Vehicle Driver. After returning from Vietnam, he went back to SOC and finished college, graduating in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in history, which was always one of his passions. After college, he drove log trucks for Lawson's Logging for 35 years, and cattle ranched at home and at his parents' ranch.
He loved to read Western books like Louis L'Amour and was always a student of history. Bob had a great memory and was easily able to recall historical dates and details about events. He loved watching NFL games on TV and riding horses.
Bob is survived by his daughter Brandi Drill and son-in-law Tony of Roseburg, Ore.; grandsons Evan and Cole Chapin of Roseburg, Ore.; brother-in-law Ray Walker of Eugene; and nieces Patti Russell, Cheryl Stuvstad and Lori Schwaneveldt and their families.
He was preceded in death by his sister Darlene Walker in 2020, and parents Pete and Kay Johnson.
Celebration of Life service to be planned for early spring 2025.
