Hector Chacon Obituary

Hector B. Chacon, 86, entered into eternal rest, Monday, July 29, 2024.

Fondly remembered as Cha, Papa Cha, Papi Chulo, Pipo, and Brown Shadow.

Mr. Chacon is survived by his wife, Isidra Chacon; children, Elvira (Ricardo) Gaona and Cynthia (Federico) Cardenas; stepchildren, Wenceslao (Imelda) Guerrero, Jr., Mirta Yvonne Guerrero (Troy Arnold) Rohde; grandchildren, Ricardo Daniel Gaona, Christopher Michael Gaona, Marisa Andrea Gaona, Hector Federico Cardenas, Carolina Enid Cardenas, Miranda Lucia Cardenas and Saul Roman Cardenas; and the mother of his children, Thelma F. Chacon; and brother, Javier Chacon (Lillian), Sister in Law, Lucy Chacon, nephews and nieces, Simon Olesijuk, Adrian Olesijuk, Roxanna Olesijuk, Javier F. Chacon Jr., Ernesto Chacon, Zita Benavides, and Marcos Chacon, as well as other family members who will greatly miss him. Preceded in death are brothers Hectorcito Chacon, Martin Chacon Jr., sister Elvira Teresa Olesijuk, father Martin J.A. Chacon, and mother, Maria Gandar Chacon.

Hector Chacon grew up in the Azteca neighborhood and attended Laredo public schools. While at Martin High School, Hector was a member of the 1956 State Basketball Championship Team. He earned a scholarship to play basketball at Allen Junior College and then walked on the Texas A&I University at Kingsville, Men's Basketball Team. Once Hector graduated from High School, he was drafted by the US Army. In 1961, Mr. Chacon started his teaching career at Milton Elementary school as an elementary school teacher and coach. He proceeded to work at Nixon high school as a teacher and basketball coach under Coach Bill Batey. He later became the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Martin High School until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Chacon is credited for starting the Boy's Basketball Tiger Dolls. He also worked with numerous other employers: U. S. Customs, Silva Mind Control, Gregory Driving School, and as a UISD substitute teacher. Throughout his career as an educator, he taught and instilled in many students the value of education. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Casa Blanca Golf Course, playing pool with his friends at 68 pool hall, barbequing, and spending time with his family.

The family will be receiving guests on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, chapel doors will open at 7:00 am. The funeral departure is scheduled for 8:15 am, with the procession passing by the Martin High School Gym before continuing to San Martin De Porres Church. Funeral Mass will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Ricardo Gaona, Federico Cardenas, Wenceslao Guerrero, Jr., Ricardo Daniel Gaona, Christopher Michael Gaona, Hector Federico Cardenas, Saul Roman Cardenas and Javier F. Chacon Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be all his former Martin High School Basketball players, and former golf buddies from Casa Blanca Golf Course.

The family is encouraging those in attendance to wear red in honor of Coach Chacon.
