Melvin Adler Obituary

December 26, 1930 - October 24, 2024 Melvin Adler, born 1930 in New York City. Parents Hyman and Pauline Adler from Máramaros, Hungary.

Mel wrote his obituary and picked the photograph out at 85 years-old and passed away on October 24, 2024 at almost 94.

He went out wanting to live and wrote:

I died against my wishes but still believe in g-d.

I had a good life-my claim to fame was my wife Joan (Dolginer) whose grandfather was Charles Goldstein a pioneer who came to Juneau, Alaska to seek his fortune looking for gold. He ended up with real estate that is in the hands of my able children.

Joan and I had a summer home on Douglas Island, Juneau-enjoying our friends, the natural beauty and tennis.

I hate leaving my family-Susan (Jannol) Greg, Judith (Altervain), Karen (Tatum) and of course Michael, Jacob, Gabriel, Jeremy, Molly and Izzy.

I was in business with my brother Bernie owning and operating the Hollywood Franklin Hotel and the Beverly Laurel Hotel in Los Angeles.

I was proud of the fact that my parents who started with nothing, and their two sons accomplished what they did.

Also, I would be remiss if I did not mention my good brother-in-law, Charles Dolginer. I also have a sister Elinor (Zelner).

Thanks to my many friends and acquaintances. Hope to see you all again.

My dream was to have a small house with smoke billowing out of the chimney, a loving wife and children.

Love, Mel

P.S. Hope this isn't published too soon.
P.P.S. All in a few words!

Melvin is survived by Susan Jannol, Greg Adler, Judith Altervain, Karen Adler, Jeremy Altervain, Micheal Jannol, Jacob Adler, Gabriel Adler, Molly Tatum and Izzy Tatum, his brother Bernie Adler and sister Elinor Zelner.

Our love and condolences to the Adler family, remembering Mel as kind, funny, interested in others´ thoughts, even the children´s. He and Joan were friends with our parents as young parents in the 60s ongoing. We all thought the Adlers were the best family, living such a great life, and we delighted in every visit with them. Much love.

Mel was one of the funniest, smartest and most interesting people I have ever known. He and Joan were both truly larger than life people. Our family spent many happy hours with them and they will be deeply missed. The world is a sadder place without him. Alev shalom my friend, and thanks for everything.
