Henry Viets Obituary

Henry Granville Viets (Henry Viets IX), beloved husband of Sally, who predeceased him by only 57 days, passed away on June 26, 2023. Henry, born in Grass Valley, CA, on October 5, 1935, grew up in Long Beach, attending Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1958 and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha. After his graduation, Henry served three years as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy, serving as the Chief Engineer for the destroyer USS Cunningham, followed by a successful career as president of Viets Engineering Company in Signal Hill. He leaves behind children Janet, Lisa, Henry (X) (Kathy) and Bonnie (Jeff), along with grandchildren Henry Brandon (XI), Helena, Andrew, Jordan, Lorien, Bridget and Katie. He and Sally set the example of what a loving, kind, funny, patient and joyful marriage should be. Theirs was a true love story. Over the years, Henry loved boating trips to Catalina with the family, traveling to Hawaii and Italy, playing tug of war with their yellow labs, writing stories and poems, cheering on the Angels, retelling tales of misadventure with high school and college friends and decades of not-so-successfully participating in an NFL football pool (though he was so proud his Sally often won). Henry, Hank, Hanko, Dad, Grand-PA will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
