Christopher Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2025.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Christopher Lawrence Brown passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, with his life partner of 18 years, Barbara Brown and daughter (if you asked him), Heather Brown at his side with the Rolling Stones playing in the background. Chris, as he was known to his friends, was preceded in death by his parents Leah Muhleman and Charles Brown, and sister Kathy Campbell.

Chris was born on Nov. 12, 1953, in Victoria B.C. He graduated from Oak Bay High School and went on to the University of Victoria where he received a degree in mathematics in 1975. Chris continued his education at McGill University in Montreal before moving to Southern California permanently in 1977 and becoming a computer programmer for over 30 years. During his career, he worked for several companies including Star Kist Tuna and Elixir Industries.

Chris had a passion for life. He was heavily influenced by music as a young child. Both his parents played music and encouraged Chris and all his siblings to take up an instrument. Chris went straight to the drums. This exposure to music at such an early age led to his eclectic taste in music ranging from Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones to Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham and other jazz fusion artists. Chris enjoyed bowling on Wednesday nights on the Wild Bunch league at Gable House, golfing on Sundays with the "guys" at Harbor Park Golf Course and attending and watching the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chris and Barb had always hoped to watch the Dodgers play around the country. The plan has been cut short, but they did attend Dodgers games in San Diego and San Francisco. In addition to traveling to baseball games, Chris and Barb regularly journeyed to Canada to see Chris's family and to Bishop, California to see Barb's children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his siblings Carol Brown, Philip Brown (Rita), Loraine Whyte (Scott), Diane Brown (Anthony Hahn), Sue Smith, and Mike Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chris was an extraordinary partner, brother, pet dad to Hunter and Coco, "step-dad" to Karina, Chris, and Heather Brown, and uncle to Jenny Foca, Melanie Foca Richards, and Dylan Hahn. Chris was a trusted colleague and a great friend to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. His spirit will live on through the many people that his life touched.

The family would like to thank the amazing doctors with the Cedar Sinai Medical Center Liver Disease and Transplant Team, the ICU Surgical Team, the fabulous registered nurses who gave exceptional care (especially Lindsay, Fernella, and Alex), Rachel (5SICU Clinical Social Worker), and the entire support staff of Cedars Sinai Hospital. The care Chris received was exceptional.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 28 at 2:00. Please RSVP to Barbara Brown ([email protected] for complete details). If you wish to honor Chris's memory, please make a donation to a worthy cause, such as the American Liver Foundation, in his name.

Maggie May and I will miss walking with you and Hunter. I will miss talking about music with you. But I think I will miss hearing how proud of your family you are and how much fun you had whenever you saw came back from seeing them.
