Eston Cobern Obituary

Eston Thomas Cobern, 78, passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2025. He leaves behind his loving wife Christine, his sister Edlyn Reneau, brother Michael (Tina) Schaefer, nieces Kendra Reneau, Shelly Byland, and Lenzie Schaefer, nephews Paul Byland and Jacob Schaefer, and seven great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Hilton Cobern, his lifelong father, Rev. Edwin Schaefer, his mother Mrs. Esther Schaefer, and his sister Elizabeth Byland.

Eston was born in Galveston, TX on October 27, 1946. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School, Blinn College, and served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. He continued to answer his call to serve as a Fireman for the Corpus Christi Fire Department, retiring after 28 years.

Eston loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had a laser eye for finding sand dollars at the beach. He loved his dogs and always had one by his side. It was not uncommon for him to treat his pets to hamburgers and French fries. He took pride in having a green thumb, having success with all plants, especially his beautiful roses. Eston loved his family, loved life, and loved having fun. His willingness to help others was his life motto. He loved reading and enjoyed sharing books with his book buddy from church.

Eston will be missed but not forgotten. He never said good-bye…merely "Later."

Eston's Memorial Service will be November 1, 2025, 11:30am at John Wesley Global Methodist Church.
