James Podunajec, 88, of Prompton, Clinton Township, died Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024 at home. His beloved wife, the former Janet Olver preceded him in death in 2006.
Born March 27, 1936 in Simpson, he was the son of the late Peter and Theresa (Vrtiprah) Podunajec.
Jim was a lifelong self-employed carpenter, and was grateful to work alongside his son, teaching him the skills of fine craftsmanship. He was a member of the former Bethany United Methodist Church. Jim loved to work and enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent many pleasant hours working in his garden at home.
Jim is survived by his son, Scott J. Podunajec of Prompton; two brothers, Joseph Podunajec and his wife Barbara, of Prompton, and Paul "Butch" Podunajec and his wife Barb of Waymart; two sisters, Gloria Gebert and her husband Jerry of Waymart, and Barbara Jezercak and her husband David Sr. of Honesdale; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Mary Wittig, Stephen Podunajec, Katherine Roe, George Podunajec, and Edward Podunajec; and a nephew, Jeffrey Podunajec.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public services.
Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim' memory to Prompton Fire & Rescue, 638 Prompton Road, Prompton, PA 18456.
