Joseph Smisek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 12, 2023.
The World lost a True Original : Ron Smisek.

Dad died, November 27th, from complications that resulted from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on October 21st, 2023.

Born in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey in 1945, Dad truly was a Baby-boomer! After WWII ended, His Parents, Mert & Joe Smisek, relocated to the place of Mert's birth: Silver Spring, Md. There, the Family began the process of starting their lives, Post War.

Dad began elementary school in Silver Spring, finishing it in Beckley, West Virginia. Dad would say he grew up in Beckley, Always having fond memories reminiscing about that time. Especially, playing baseball and walking with his brother Randy to the local record store. Dad's sister Jodi, was born in Beckley a bit later.

The family moved back to Silver Spring in the early 60s, where Dad graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1963.

Playing golf, going to the beach and playing music was what Dad loved to do.

In September 1966, Dad married Nancy Simkins. Two kids came out of this union, My sister Jen (Snife) and myself.

In 1967, Dad began his law enforcement career with the Montgomery County Police Department. In time, becoming Detective by the age of30, was a huge milestone and career achievement.

Dad was ALWAYS interested in older cars and Antiques.

Having gone to the very first Carlisle Car Show back in 1974. For the rest of his life, he would always try to catch one of the shows-Spring or Fall, whenever he could.

Speaking of antiques, Dad would go anywhere, anytime, on just the hint, or whisper of something rare or unique. He specialized in Antique Advertising.

He promoted antique shows locally as well as setting up and selling at many throughout the United States.

In 1981, Dad moved to San Diego. Having stayed there only a year, He traveled across the dessert and ended up in what would be his longest state of residence:

Arizona.

Working in the World of Security for Hotels and resorts in the Phoenix & Scottsdale areas, he eventually became the Director of Security for the Phoenician Resort.

He held that position until his retirement in 2017.

Moving "back east" as it's been said, in 2019, Dad enjoyed not only the beach lifestyle, but also traveling all over the country, going to such Antique shows as Walnut (Antique City) Iowa, Brimfield, Massachusetts, West Viriginia, Maryland, Ohio, Florida, Maine.......... the list truly went on and on as His Yukon XL would take him there.

Dad, speaking on behalf of Our Family, You are and will be missed every day.

Hopefully, there are plenty of Diet Cokes and Doughnuts in Heaven.

I just learned of Ron´s passing. I worked for Ron and was actually married in his back yard. He was instrumental in my career path and learned so much from him. I was blessed to have called him friend and he will be missed by many. RIP Ron.

Your Dad was one of THE BEST! We met in Phoenix and started trading back and forth- he'd buy from me- and I'd buy something a week later from him. Ron had a GREAT eye- he understood the subtle nuances that made something incredible. Many house picks we went on. I am saddened by the news and I will miss him. Rest in Peace My Friend- I hope the junkin is good up there!

Sargent Ron you were missed in Phoenix when you retired from your security gig at The Phoenician. A big guy with a big smile, quick wit, fun demeanor and talents. Ron played in a rock band - everyone´s dreams, he lived it. Loved the " Police Line Don´t Cross" guitar strap he used on his guitar. Ron had many talents and he was a conversationalist if you were trusted and he thought of you as a genuine person. Worked with Ron " Joe" for 20+ years in Valley - I tell you it´s a loss Ron will be missed, sympathy and prayers offered to the family. Rest in Peace dude!!

We are so sorry for your loss. We just met him in March when we moved next door to him and Jodi and honestly we fell in love with him from day 1. He was just so pleasant to be around and had lots of stories he would tell Drue and I and was just so interesting. I would send him and Jodi and Randy sweets that I baked and meals that I made and he was always so thankful and would always tell me how much he enjoyed it. We also enjoyed helping him with some of his projects if he needed help. He would just ask and we would be there to see what we can do. It is so sad that he passed away so quickly cause he truly was a special person. We miss him terribly but we´re blessed to have met him. Please accept our condolences. Drue and Mary lou
