Donzella "Zella" "Donna" Hardy Roberts, age 58, of
Jacksonville, Florida, peacefully departed this life on September 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 18, 1967, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Charles Truitt and Dorothy Mae Hardy, Zella was a radiant spirit whose love for music took root early in life. Taught to sing by her beloved mother, their voices would blend in joyful two-part harmonies, filling their home with warmth and melody. These cherished moments remained a cornerstone of Zella's heart long after her mother's untimely passing when Zella was only nine years old.
Zella's passion for the arts continued to flourish through her school years. From middle school into her time at Howard High School (Class of 1985), she immersed herself in music, chorus, and interpretive dance. A highlight of her youth was performing "Thriller" at the Chattanooga Memorial Auditorium-an electrifying moment made even more memorable with members of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in attendance.
Following High School, Zella proudly served her country in the United States Navy. During her military service, she formed lasting friendships and found a second family in Crystal, Jeff, Thersa, Derrick, Michelle, Richard, Maude, Ruth, and many others who served beside her. As a young mother, she courageously raised her children, Nori and Chris, while navigating military life with resilience and grace.
After an honorable discharge, Zella returned to Chattanooga-where destiny reunited her with her soulmate, Darryl Roberts Sr. Their love blossomed into a lifelong bond, and on September 3, 1999, they were joined in marriage, writing together what their family calls "The Greatest Love Story known to man."
Zella was a beacon of light, a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a loyal friend. She was known for her infectious laughter, vibrant energy, and deep love for those around her. Her faith, strength, and compassion touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to live on through those who loved her.
She is now reunited in eternal rest with her parents, Charles and Dorothy; her sister, Wanda Renee Hardy; her niece, Kendra; her great-niece, Jerika; and her beloved son, Desi.
She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories to be cherished by: devoted husband, Darryl Roberts Sr; children, Nori'ca Mie Henderson, Chris Desmond Henderson (Ammarie) and Darrance "Big Sticks" Roberts;
grandchildren, Maliek Henderson and Zhari' Mie Henderson; sister-in-law, Renee Evans (Ben); brother, Ossie Lee Poke Jr; 3 nephew's, 4 niecies; lifelong friends, Carolyn, Stacy, and Yvette, whom she called sisters.
And a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones from every walk of life who were blessed by her kindness and love.
Zella's voice may be silent, but her song lives on in every heart she touched.
