Owen “Ballard” Simmons passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023. He was 83 years old.
Owen, known by many as Ballard, was born July 4, 1940 in Harrisburg, Ky to Owen M. and Edna Pearl Simmons. He was the oldest son of five children that included two daughters and three sons. His family moved to Florida when Owen was just a teenage boy.
Owen joined the Marines right out of high school and proudly served his country.
Upon returning home to Florida from the military, Owen met and married Joan Marie McNeil. They made their home in Margate and he lived there until his death. He fathered two sons, Robert and Craig Simmons.
Making a career as a lead foreman for the manufacturing company known as Stimpson, in which he worked for 47 years until he retired.
Upon retiring Owen joined several social clubs, to include the American Legion and Moose Lodge. It was there that his love for dancing began. He enjoyed attending the social events and parties. He met and became close friends with many members.
Owen is survived by his sons, Robert A. Simmons (Missy) and Craig B. Simmons, his brother Josh Caleb, his grandchildren, his nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Sadie and Jean, brother Joseph and Joan Marie Simmons.
Owen was a caring and kind person. He was always there to help in any way, whether it be a neighbor, a friend, a family member, or a mere stranger.

Owen’s passing will be felt by many who knew him best.
