MORVEN - On Thursday, October 3, 2024, Mr. James Edward “Sonny” Rivers, age 69, departed his life at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center Main in Charlotte, NC surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 11, 1955, in Chesterfield County, SC and was a son of James Haywood Rivers and Lucy Anna Watson Rivers. He attended the public schools in Anson County and graduated from Bowman Senior High School in 1973.
James was employed at Glenn Manufacturing in Morven as a supervisor for more than 20 years and later he was employed with Walmart Supercenter as manager of tire and lube until his retirement.
At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the Cairo Community of Anson County.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Haywood Rivers, his son, Travis Rivers, his brother-in-law, Lawrence Spencer and his nephew, Montiel Rivers.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Sandra Coppadge Rivers and to this union one son was born, Timothy (Constance) Rivers; his grandchildren, Quentin Byrd and Lauren Rivers; his loving mother, Lucy Anna Rivers; his brother, Michael Rivers; his sisters, Vernell (Donald) Lee, Vanessa Rivers, Joanne Spencer, Linda (Calvin) Taylor, Teresa Rivers, Jacqueline Rivers, Carolyn (Ray) Gaddy and Lisa (Bendale) Byrd; his sisters-in-law, Beverly Sturdivant and Natalie (Wallace) Doster; his aunt, Cathleen (Tyre) Phillips; devoted friends, Zadek (Betty) Woodburn; a bonus sister, Rhonda (Larry) Liles; other faithful friends who are like family, Thomas Coppadge, Tony Tillman and Carolyn Tillman who was his riding partner; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Morven.
Public viewing will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the funeral home.
The family is gathering at his mother's home, Lucy Rivers, 210 White Oak St., Morven.
