A memorial service for Richard K. Payne, Sr. will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. at the Koala Club, 4809 Shed Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana 71111.
Richard was born on May 2, 1941 to Elisha A. Payne, Jr. and Ora Wilson Bonnette Payne in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 in Coushatta, Louisiana.
Richard graduated from Fair Park High School in 1959 before embarking on a diverse career that included time spent at the Libby Glass Plant as a glassware laborer, alongside various other jobs throughout his life. While professionally accomplished, it was in his personal life where Richard truly shined.
He was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he nurtured his faith and fostered friendships through sports and community involvement. Richard passionately enjoyed playing, listening to, and watching football, baseball, and basketball games, both professional and college. His extensive knowledge of SEC college statistics, especially LSU as well as NFL statistics made him a treasured resource for fellow sports enthusiasts.
Richard’s journey through life was marked by his profound commitment to sobriety. He proudly achieved 47 years of sobriety and made countless friendships through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). His active participation in the program exemplified his determination to support others on similar journeys, and he was a beacon of hope for many within the community.
Richard Kelly Payne, Sr. leaves behind a treasure trove of memories filled with love, laughter, and sportsmanship. He will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha A. Payne, Jr. and Ora Wilson Bonnette Payne; children, Theresa Payne and Richard (Skeeter) Kelly Payne, Jr.; mother of his children, Barbara Roy Payne, and brother, Elisha (Buddy) A. Payne, III. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Alice Morgan; stepchildren, Kathy Noe, Denise Platt, Troy Holt, Randy Holt, Stacey Bounds, Donna Harlow, Christopher Holt, Rick Holt, Clara Bordelon, and William (Billy) Everett; grandson, Andrew Payne; granddaughters, Kadaiesha Johnson and Trinity Johnson; sister-in-law, Shirley Shaffer Payne; ex brother-in-law, Jimmy Ray Morgan; nephews, Elisha A. Payne IV(Bubba), and wife, Kym, Christian M. Cole, Cassian M. Cole, Curtis Ray Morgan, and Sable Lee Morgan; nieces, Angela P. Cole, and husband, Justin, Traci P. Morgan, Abigail M. Morgan, and Lexi B. Gilcrease along with special friends, Rob M. “Mrs. Petee”, (Dawn Dunphy) and Mary Glass.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Koala Club, 4809 Shed Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana 71111.
