Michael Ferro Obituary
Michael "Mickey" Ferro Sr., affectionately known as Pop, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 11, 2025, with his loving, cherished family by his side. Mickey was 95 years old. Born May 31st, 1929, to the late Frank Ferro and Rose (Rubino) Ferro, he was the eldest of six children. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann DeLeo. They had three children and shared 70 blessed years together.
Mickey was a lifelong Stamford resident. He attended Stamford High School. His education was cut short to begin working to help support his family. In 1949, with one truck, Mickey started his own junk and recycling business. He later expanded into refuse collection, (Mickey Ferro and son) and eventually his brother, Anthony "Chic" Ferro, joined him in business to form "Ferro Brothers Refuse". In 1973, Mickey Jr. joined the company and remained a principal until 2015. The company Mickey founded later merged with City Carting Co. and grew to employ over 500 people. Mickey was a man of integrity, he was genuine, wise and had a profound effect on everyone he met.
Throughout his life, Mickey's greatest joy and accomplishments were his family. He truly lived for them. Mickey had a unique relationship with every one of his grandchildren, whether it was attending their sporting events, teaching them to drive or just spending quality time with them. They all loved him. Some of his fondest memories were spending time in Vermont and Florida with family and friends.
Mickey was an accomplished golfer. He once carried a single digit handicap and had 3 hole-in-ones, the first at Mill River CC with his son, Mickey, caddying for him. Mickey loved to cook, eat and never missed an opportunity to make someone a legendary tomato salad, a recipe that was passed down from his mother "Grandma Ferro". Mickey lived a life without wavering. He put his family first always, worked hard, respected everyone and was well-respected in return. Mickey led a great life, touching many lives in one way or another. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as he created a legacy that will live on through his family for generations to come.
Mickey is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol, children, Michael Jr. "Mickey" (Bonnie), Sally Lewis (Rick) Diane Giannattasio (John). Grandchildren, Lynnae Monti (Dean), Michael Ferro, III (Emily), Michelle Esposito (John), Robert Lewis (Traci), Theresa Ferro, Christine Lewis, Elise and John Giannattasio, Jr. He was blessed with 13 beautiful great-grandchildren who adored him. Mickey is also survived by his siblings, Samuel "Sonny" Ferro, Christine DeMaio, Mary Grace McMahon, Ann Rose Labozzo, and many loved nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony "Chic" Ferro.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 15th, from 2pm to 7pm at Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, April 16th, at St. Mary's Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, in Darien, CT.

Carol, Sally, Mickey, Jr and Diane: My heart breaks for you as I know how much each of you loved Mickey. He was a very special person who always lived his life with love and laughter. I can see him sneaking into the kitchen @ Michael's Restaurant, telling us, "don't tell Carol as he enjoyed his Aunt Fay and cousin Anthony Ferro's delights.
