Rodney Kenneth Mitchner, born on November 24, 1953, in Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on February 13, 2025, at the age of 70 after a two-year battle with cancer.

In 1969, Rodney's family moved to East Lansing, where he graduated from East Lansing High School in 1972. He later settled in Lansing, MI, which became his home. Rodney began his career at Xerox before joining the State of Michigan in 1986. He dedicated over two decades to public service before retiring in 2012.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gloria Mitchner; his daughter, Terri Mitchner; and his first wife, Rubye Mitchner. He is survived by his son, Rodney K. Mitchner II (Destanee) of Arlington, TX; his daughter, RaShawn Mitchner (B.J.) of Chicago, IL; and three grandchildren: Rodney III, Ryan, and Rihanna. He is also survived by his siblings: Gene Mitchner (Jerrilyne) of Streamwood, IL; Dennis Mitchner of Somerville, TN; Cynthia McCants (Dennis) of Lansing, MI; Steve Mitchner Sr. (Shirley) of Lansing, MI; Brenda Mitchner of Grand Rapids, MI; Jeff Mitchner (Vanessa) of Lyons, MI; Michael Mitchner (Jennifer) of East Lansing, MI; Diane Brown of Columbia, MD; and Michael Mitchner of Florida. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.

During the last two years of his life, Rodney lived in Tennessee with his brother Dennis. Together they enjoyed fishing and tending to their vegetable garden on the property-pastimes that brought him great joy and peace.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
