Richard "Richie" Minota Jr. Obituary

Richard “Richie” George Minota Jr., passed away quietly in his home on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Richie lived life with grit, generosity, and a heart as big as the lake he loved so much. Born on March 30, 1975, Richie had an unmatched gift for fixing boat motors - a true genius in his craft. For over 20 years, he built a respected boat motor business in both California and New York. In New York, he and his best friend John Barnes became the go-to team for outboard motor repairs. Richie knew every model, every part, every year, and poured his whole heart into the work he loved.

Richie was a man of many passions - the lake, fishing, boating, and the animals he was always rescuing. His compassion extended to people as much as it did to animals; if you needed help, he would be there for you, any time, day or night. He was an incredible father and uncle to his nephews, always there at the drop of a dime, showing up with love, laughter, and support whenever they needed him. His intelligence, quick wit, and humor could light up any room.

His greatest joys were time on the lake, time with his father, his late mother, and his beloved son, Ryden. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, no questions asked. His kindness, generosity, and laughter made him unforgettable to all who knew him.

Life wasn’t always easy for him, but he faced his struggles with courage and heart. In these past years, he pushed as hard as he could to be a beacon of peace and strength to his family even in the hardest times.

So, to honor him in the way he would have wanted, we will gather for a Celebration of Life at The Spinning Wheel Restaurant in North Syracuse on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. There will be no formal service - just friends and family sharing stories, raising a glass, and toasting to a life well-lived. Everyone who knew and loved Richie is welcome to come remember him, laugh, cry, and share in the joy of who he was.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Oneida Lake Association, or the Central New York SPCA - in memory of Richie, a tribute to his love for the lake, the fish, the animals he rescued, and the life he built around them and those he loved.

In Richard's honor, help someone when they need it, rescue an animal if you can, and maybe spend a little more time on the water.
