Thomas Marinshaw Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2024.
Thomas Nicholas Marinshaw, aged 79, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Washington D.C., he was the third child of Stephen and Alvina (Shoming) Marinshaw.

In his twenties Tom followed his brother west to California where he met and married Susan Hitchcock in 1967. Their seventeen-year marriage produced four children: Christopher, Jonathan, Audra, and Andrew.

After a time in Southern California, Tom returned to the Bay Area where he met Nedra Pollard. They were married in 1991 and he gained a loving daughter, Lori. Tom and Nedra were happily married for twenty-nine years until Nedra's passing three years ago.

Tom was a successful salesman and worked for many years as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley. He and Nedra enjoyed an active retirement which included vacations and family gatherings at their beautiful Danville home.

A longtime Porsche enthusiast, Tom belonged to the Diablo Region Porsche Club. He especially loved track days in his 911 Turbo. Tom also had a passion for sailing and at one time owned his own sailboat and volunteered countless hours on the USS Potomac Presidential yacht. A skilled craftsman with a mechanical aptitude, he took pleasure in restoring old scooters, making them look and run like new. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and watching The Three Stooges with his grandson Levi.

Tom leaves behind his five children and their spouses, Christopher (Alexandra), Jonathan (Vanessa), Audra, Andrew, and Lori (Mark) and eight grandchildren, Alistair, Eliot, Jerzy, Gianna, Maddox, Gabriella, Rose, and Levi. He is also survived by his six siblings.

Details of Tom's memorial service will be provided on Legacy.com.

I can never forget my little brother who has passed from this life to the next and joins his family in Heaven. We had so many good times and laughs together. I loved him then, now and always.
Rest in peace, brother Tom.

I was 4- years old when Tom was born. I remember being happy about that because up till then, I only had a "big sister ", Emmy.

Tom and I wore overalls most of the time when we were young. As a 3-year old novice in the art of talking, Tom called them "ho-hoes". About that time, dad bought a front- loading Bendix washing machine, which he installed in the basement." One day, fascinated by watching the clothes in the machine being washed (via the window in the door), Tom saw his overalls tumbling and announced, "My ho-hoes go roundy-roundy."

Emmy and I used to tease him by repeating his "roundy-roundy" quote for many years. Tom was followed by four more brothers. Teasing each other was common entertainment in our family. It continued until we eventually went our own ways in life.
