DELPHOS -- Gary L. Sroufe, 85, of Delphos, passed away at home on September 30, 2023. Born on September 19, 1938 in Lima to the late George A. and Betty Buffenbarger Sroufe, he was a man of great integrity that loved his family and friends. On June 15, 1958 he married Louise Brenneman who survives in Delphos. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
He graduated in 1956 from Elida High School. He worked for years in the building and lumber industry and retired as a roof & floor truss designer. Until his death, he worked at Delphos Tent and Awning which was a lifeline for him. He served on the Delphos Board of Education from 1969 to 1981, was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Hope Lodge #214 and served on the board of Walnut Grove Cemetery. He helped coach the Delphos Reds in the Delphos Youth Football League and was a statistician for Delphos Jefferson Football team for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos. Gary loved to build things in his workshop and give them away to family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Terri & Allan Christensen, Mike & Connie Sroufe, his grandchildren, Heidi Christensen & Ryan Koch, Erik M. Christensen, Alex & Lauren Sroufe, Katie Sroufe & fiancé Connor Wechter, great grandchildren, Analise Koch & Morgan Sroufe. He is also survived by his brother, Paul "Nub" & Kay Sroufe, sister, Carol Spring, brother-in-law James Watson and countless nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua Deaton and his sisters, Linda Stemen, Kathy Watson & Marilyn Holdgreve.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 East Fifth Street, Delphos. A Masonic service conducted by Hope Lodge #214 will be held at 7:45 p.m.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 05, 2023 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Delphos Jefferson Athletic Scholarship Department. Online condolences may be shared at www.weberfh.net.

I last saw Gary at our 50th anniversary dinner for Elida High School, and I bought a handsome box he had made. He was a good friend in school, and a leader on the football team.
