Chianese Sr., Richard Paul

Richard Paul Chianese, Sr. age 90 passed peacefully on Thursday December 22, 2011 at home surrounded in love by his family. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY on January 29, 1921 to Olimpia DeRosa and Antonio Chianese. Although born in the United States, Richard's mother was pregnant with him during her voyage to America. Richard married Carmela D'Aquanni on September 2, 1946 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Mt. Vernon NY. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandpa, PopPop, and uncle. Richard was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Carmela, and is survived by his children, Annette (Phil) Kiamie, Richard Jr. (Betty Ann) Chianese, Peter (Lois) Chianese, Robert (Lucy) Chianese, Olympia (Dean) Koclanes, Mary Elizabeth (Michael) Mastrangelo, Carolyn (Gennaro) Sepe and John (Cecelia) Chianese, 21 grandchildren and spouses, five great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his sister, Theresa Merigliano and brothers, Mauro, Nicholas, Domenick, Silvio and Alfred. Richard graduated A.B. Davis High School. He served in the US Army Signal Corps during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Arrowhead. His career was in the foundry industry beginning with Triboro Foundry and concluding with Westchester Casting. Together with his wife Carmela, he was a founding member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and served as Parish Trustee for over 13 years and sang in the Church Choir. He was an avid and accomplished golfer and gardener. Richard was a true renaissance man, known to many for his sketching and watercolors as well as song writing and piano playing. Visiting hours will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Tuesday at 11 am. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Calvary Hospice, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10451.

To Rich Jr and family
I'm very sorry to read about your fathers passing. I remember the many times that we had golfing along with Eddie Fusco.They taught us a few things on the course and we always had a good time. He was a gentleman and he will be missed. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this time.
