Carol Cope Edwards

July 2, 1943 - April 12, 2025

Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina - Carol Ann Cope Edwards, 81, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025. She was born in Wake County, North Carolina, on July 2, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Ralph Cope and Katherine Cope.

Carol was an exceptional mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. The things she was most fond of were her family, her love for God, and commitment to the Carolina Hurricanes. She was a lifelong resident of Wake County and graduated from Broughton High School. She was a member of Wake Chapel Christian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir before her health declined. She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends as a woman of great strength and conviction.

In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her third husband, David Walter "Bo" Edwards; sister-in-law, Billie Cope; and stepdaughter-in-law, Michelle Edwards, all whom she loved very dearly.

Carol is survived by her loving partner, Joseph Smith of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Alecia Gamble Johnson (Carl) of Apex; son, Charles Leland Gamble of Cary; stepsons, David Edwards of Wendell, Scott Edwards (Kelli) of Fuquay-Varina, Shelly Edwards (Stephanie) of Fuquay-Varina, and Kelly Edwards of Fuquay-Varina; brother, Kenneth Cope of Clarksville, VA; grandchildren, Justin Johnson (Janette) of Zebulon, and Jaimilyn Boening (Robert) of Cary; step grandchildren, Crystal Edwards, Cody Edwards, Turtle Edwards, Brendan Edwards, Erin Sturgill, Mary Helen Edwards, Ricky Blackford, William Dorman, and Charlotte Carroll; and by her first husband, Gerald Gamble (Andrea) of Apex.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529. Burial will follow after the service at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27603.
