Valeta Wicker Obituary
Abilene
Valeta S. Wicker, 86, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 30, 2010.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010, in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Valeta was born on September 3, 1924 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Lola and Clark Self. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1945. Valeta then worked in Washington, D.C. and in Guam. She married John B. Wicker on May 24, 1952 in Oroville, California. Her teaching career span the states of California, Idaho, and Texas. She retired as a teacher at Dyess Elementary School. Valeta was loving, gracious, and a joyful delight. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Valeta was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, John Wicker of Abilene and two sons, Clark Wicker of Houston, Texas and Philip Wicker of Abilene.

Even though it has been a while since seeing Valeta I remember her smile and sweet disposition. We have sympathy with your loss and know that your family will be a great shoulder to lean upon.

I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Wicker's passing. I was her student teacher at Dyess in the 1969-1970 school year in her 4th grade class. She was one of the most profound influences on me in my teaching career. I learned so many lessons from her. I have often thought of her through the years. My condolences to her family.
