MAYSVILLE – Charles "Chuck" Louis McHugh, 63, of Maysville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at the UK Chandler Medical Center due to a sudden illness.
Chuck was born in Maysville, on Aug. 16, 1961, the son of the late John A. McHugh and Jane McGuire McHugh.
He was a graduate of Maysville High School and a member of St. Patrick Church.
Aside from being a multi-talented guitarist, songwriter and performer (having played with several local bands from Floodwall Ramblers to Loose Shoes), Chuck was also a popular solo artist performing everything from Chuck Berry to the Beatles, as well as his own original compositions. He performed at various venues that included Lexington to Cincinnati, Ohio.
Chuck was also an incredible theatrical/horror make-up artist, special effects designer and magician.
When he wasn't creating effects for local stage productions, he spent many hours applying make-up to neighborhood kids for Halloween. When he wasn't making up kids, he was scaring them!
Chuck took his spooky talents to the stage in two productions of "Dracula". He played Renfield in a Flemingsburg production and, most notably, portrayed the great Count, himself, in a Maysville Players production of "Dracula" in the mid 1990's.
He earned the nickname, Dr. Boogie, from his popular self-produced short videos long before Youtube or TikTok were ever heard of.
Survivors include his daughter, Molly McHugh of Louisville; his sister, Pat "Pocky" McHugh of Maysville and his brother, Sean McHugh of Kissimmee, Fla., his paternal aunt, Frances McHugh and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack McHugh, Jim McHugh and Mark McHugh.
A graveside memorial services for Chuck McHugh will be held at the Saint Patrick Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, with Pastor Gordon Jones officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home.
