Ann Moon Obituary

Ann W. Moon, age 77, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 27, 2025, in Asheville, N.C.
Her father and mother were Witalis Stanislaw Winnicki and Czeslawa Winnicka, who left Poland during World War II to live in England's Lake District.
Ann was born June 11, 1947 in Whitehaven, Cumberland County. When she was about four years old, they moved to Granby, Quebec, Canada where she learned French with neighborhood children and English through attending Catholic schools there throughout childhood, and continued speaking Polish at home. She graduated Magna cum Laude in mathematics from Marianapolis College with a degree from the University of Montreal. She spent her first year out of college working at the Bank of Montreal being trained by IBM in programming and system design.
She met Henry C. Moon at a dance on Nun's Island on Jan. 29, 1973. They dated for three plus years before being married on Oct. 9, 1976 at First Baptist Church, Montreal. In May 1977, they moved to Charlotte, N.C., where Henry had lived before moving to Canada.
Ann worked for 16 years with IBM in Charlotte, and finished her 30-plus-year career in information technology in February 2009, after going into business for herself in 1993.
Ann and Henry moved to Little Switzerland, N.C. in 2009. They had 48 good years together and on Jan. 29, 2025, they would have celebrated 52 years since they met. Ann was a wonderful wife for all those years and was a very dedicated Roman Catholic all her life. She was a member of St. Lucien Catholic Church and a volunteer for the church's Ave Maria Food Bank.
She enjoyed the beach, gardening, needlework, traveling, cooking, living in Little Switzerland, and visiting many national parks over the years. Her bright spirit will be forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved Ann.
Left to cherish her memories are husband: Henry C. Moon; sister-in-law: Carol Moon Hammock; three stepchildren: Hank Moon (Utah), Sara Moon Furlong (Richard) and Amy Moon (Florida); two grandchildren: Sean and Jamie Lett; a nephew: Cason Hammock; a niece: Jennifer Hammock Mummert (Michael) and four grandnieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Lucien Catholic Church in Spruce Pine. Interment service will follow at Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Spruce Pine.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to one of the following: Samaritan's Purse (Boone, N.C.), St. Lucien Catholic Church (Spruce Pine) Western Carolina Rescue Ministries (Asheville).
After the interment service is finished, all guests are invited to the Grassy Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall located beneath the main sanctuary for a full dinner.
The family would like to also thank all the doctors and nurses at Messino Cancer Center in Spruce Pine and Asheville, Mission Memorial Hospital ICU Department and Asheville Pulmonary and Critical Care for the outstanding care given to Ann from June 2020 until Jan. 25, 2025.
