James J. Scannell, Jr.
James J. Scannell, Jr., of Warminster, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2007, at his home. He was 82.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy F. Cadman Scannell of Warminster.
Mr. Scannell was born May 18, 1924, in St. John's Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1942 and the University of Pittsburgh, BSEE in 1948. He was a 4 year member of the Pitt Marching and Concert Bands. His honoraries included Sigma Tau, Kappa Kappa Psi, Omericon Delta Kappa and Scabbord and Blade. Mr. Scannell served with the U. S. Army Signal Corps., for 4 years during World War II and in the Army Reserve as First Lieutenant for 10 years. In 1949, he married Mary Mulqueen, who died in 1975. They had four children. In 1981,
Mr. Scannell married Dorothy Cadman Fanning of Cherry Hill, NJ.
Mr. Scannell retired in 1985 after 38 years with Bell Telephone of PA in three areas and headquarters as division manager engineering. He was an original member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Cherry Hill, NJ. He enjoyed world traveling, fishing, photography, ham radio, PIT marching band and football, cooking barbecue ribs at the family reunion, keeping in touch with life long friend, telling a good story, and wearing and collecting hats.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, James J. Scannell III of Gainesville, GA, Elizabeth Scannell Sipe of Harrisburg, PA, Kristine Scannell of Rockville, MD, and Cynthia Scannell Johnson of Atlanta, GA; his step-children, William J. Fanning Jr., of Westminster, MD, Patricia Fanning Donnelly of Washington Crossing, PA, Catherine Fanning Shipman of Warren, NJ, Virginia Fanning of Chalfont, PA, and John M. Fanning of Bridgewater, NJ. He was the grandfather of 18; the brother of Raymond Scannell of Richmond, VA, Marion Heyl of Pittsburgh, PA and Eleanor Hayes of Allison Park, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12th, at Nativity Of Our Lord Church, 625 W. Street Road, Warminster, PA. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m., Thursday evening, and from 9-10 a.m., Friday morning at The Decker Funeral Home, 216 York Road, Warminster, PA. Interment will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 13th, at Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or Compassionate Caring Hospice, 3333 Street Road, Suite 235, Bensalem, PA 19020, in Mr. Scannell's memory.
