Donald Johnson Obituary

Donald Allen Johnson was born July 17, 1926 in St.Paul, Minnesota to Otto and Anna Johnson. Don was the beloved husband of Shirley Mae Johnson, father of Gregg (wife Ruth), Lynn, Kim (husband Mike Kiyosaki), Mark (wife Susan) and Julie (husband Brad Woodstra). He was grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Walter and Howard.

Don joined the Navy and served his country during WWII. After the war, he earned a degree from the University of Minnesota in Aeronautical Engineering, and played hockey for the U of MN Gophers. Don was an Eagle Scout and later a Scoutmaster.

Don was the chief executive officer of several corporations during his career, the last being Carver Pump Company in Muscatine, Iowa from which he retired in 1993. Although born and raised in Minnesota, Don and Shirley loved living in Muscatine on their beloved Geneva golf course. They enjoyed their community at Geneva Golf and Country Club where Don was an exceptional and avid golfer. He taught his children and grandchildren to play golf and spent many many hours improving his game!

Don and Shirley celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary this past March. They were members of many organizations throughout their life. Together, they started a Congregational Church in White Bear Lake, MN. They continued their Congregational fellowship through Faith United Church of Christ in Muscatine for the past 48 years. Through his volunteer work at SCORE in Muscatine, Don helped many people launch their businesses. Among his favorites was AJ Tree Services.

As a Veteran of the US Navy in WWII, Don will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling in St. Paul, MN.

Don, you are my very special mentor. You invited us to Iowa in 1990 and hired me as a friend who said I was your best hire ever. Thank you so much for your encouragement, advise and professionalism you have always shown. You are my hero. Love you.
