Agnes E. (Davis) Smith of Rockland age 90 passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024 in the comfort of her own home, with family by her side.
Born on June 27, 1934 to the late Frederick and Martha (O'Connor) Davis, Agnes was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School. After raising her family, Agnes worked on her education, finishing with a Master's Degree from Cambridge College.
After retiring from UMass Extension in 2001, Agnes continued to work numerous jobs and maintained a lively lifestyle. She enjoyed attending daily Mass at Holy Family, bowling, keeping up-to-date on current politics and spending time with friends and family. She and her girlfriends spent Monday nights together as the "Monday Night Girls," a tradition that spanned decades. She was also a long-time board-member of the Rockland Council on Aging. While her children were young, she was very involved in the Holy Family Mother's Club, a club that she was grateful to have made many life-long friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Smith; her long-time companion, Frederick Connell; children, Donald Smith, Jr., Katherine Smith, Robert Smith, Linda Martin Vitt (Walter). She was the beloved sister of the late Jean Griffin, Martha McGlone (Micheal,) and Frederick Davis.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Smith) Hanson and her husband James "Al" of Rockland; her brother, John Davis of Rockland; daughter-in-law Catherine (Connors) Smith of Somerset; and her sister-in-law, Jean (Monahan) Davis of Plymouth.
Known as "Nana" to many that knew her, she was the loving grandmother of Derek Smith of FL, Erin Martin of Taunton, Elizabeth Martin of Fall River, Robert Smith, Jr of NC, Meghan Smith of Rockland, Kaitlyn Saucier and her husband, John of Somerset, and Ryan Hanson of SC, as well as her great-grandchildren, Cooper, Dalton, Brady, Devon, Madison, Duke, Rollin, Colton, Beau, Connor and Alice, all of whom she adored. She was Aunt Aggie to many nieces and nephews and was extremely fond of her several cousins, past and present.
Visiting hours will take place on Sunday, September 15 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water Street, Rockland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 403 Union Street, Monday September 16 at 9:00 AM. Interment at Holy Family Cemetery.
