Rev. Alan Hugh West, husband of Dianne Addis West of 5008 Buffalo-West
Springs Hwy., Pauline, being surrounded by his family, was welcomed into his heavenly home and into the arms of Jesus after years of battling Parkinsons, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Rev. West was born on a beautiful Sunday morning on November 8, 1953, son of the late Hugh Nelson West and Elsie Bogan West.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Bryan West (Alana) and Scott West of the home and grandchildren, Cooper Alan West, Samantha Lee West and Paisley Wayne West. He is also survived by several cousins, Vickie, Eddie, Ira, Wanda, Allyson, Joey, Teesie, Darryl and Diane. He was predeceased by a cousin, Ray Lawson, paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, Audrey Lawson and Joyce Williams, in-laws, Clyde Grady "Boots" Addis and Hattie G. Addis.
Rev. West was a 1971 graduate of Jonesville High School, Spartanburg Technical College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was formerly employed at J.P. Stevens-Jonesville Plant, Harley Bag-Union Camp of Camp Croft Spartanburg, S.C. After Seminary he served Mt. Joy Baptist Church as Pastor until he retired in December 2019 due to Parkinsons with 20 ½ years of serving the Lord as their Pastor. He loved his congregation deeply. He had a passion for teaching and studying God's Word. His call into ministry was at the age of 40 and he would share with others that he ran from God's call for years. He entered Southeastern Baptist Seminary in August 1994. While there he earned an Associates Degree, Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies, Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Divinity with Christian Counseling. He was awarded the Baxter C. Phillips and Wanda L. Phillips Greek Exposition Award twice. One of his special works was an Exegeses written on Revelation while at Seminary. He loved digging deep in studying Revelation.
Prior to seminary Rev. West served in various positions of responsibility within the church, such as, R.A. Leader, Sunday School Teacher, VBS, Deacon, Building and Grounds Committee, Choir, Pastor Search Committee, lay speaker and wherever else he could serve. He was blessed to go on four mission trips to Puerto Rico and several within the States.
Rev. West was a people person and had a special gift of loving everyone and always made it a point to tell you he loved you, even if he had just met you. He always said he just wanted to be a blessing to everyone and he certainly was. He will be greatly missed. He was a very kind, compassionate, humble and loving man of God. He lived a faith filled life and devotion to God, a fisher of men.
Rev. West enjoyed deer hunting. He was an avid archery shooter. He spent many hours at Southern Bow Hunt in Greer with his sons and Bill Silverthrone, owner and 7th in the World on the PSE All American Archery Team, Todd Merrit 3rd in the World All American PSE Archery Team, Robin Hooding their arrows.
He was loving husband, father, and grandfather. Rev. West was very proud and deeply loved his sons, Bryan and Scott. He adored his grandchildren and loved them immensely. When they called out for "Bampa" he lit up like a light. His favorite time of the year was at Christmas watching the grands open their gifts.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Jonesville Baptist Church at 3:00 PM conducted by the Rev. Scott Cannon, Rev. Tom Austin, and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will follow at Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Blaine Addis, Daniel Addis, Brad Horne, Trent Horne, Craig Lancaster, and Tim Stevens.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services.
The family wants to express what a blessing Family Hospice has been and the tender special care they showed to their loved one. Also, to JoLen Brannon for being a wonderful caregiver to Alan in the home.
