Alma R. Shoemaker, 96, of Quarryville, entered into rest at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born in Glen Roy, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Beulah (Finney) Reeves. She was the loving wife of Clyde P. Shoemaker, who passed in 2009.
Alma was a graduate of Oxford High School. She went on to work as a cashier at the former Ferguson and Hassler Supermarket for over 45 years. She was a previous member and Sunday school teacher at Little Britain Presbyterian Church and later a member at the former St. Paul's Church in Quarryville. She also enjoyed singing in her church choirs and also the QPRC choir. Alma was a member of the Solanco Historical Society and served as a volunteer for the Bible Adventure Ministry at Quarryville Elementary School. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Alma is survived by 5 children: Beverly Ray; Richard Shoemaker, companion of Kerry; Judy, wife of Donald Young; Glenn Shoemaker, husband of Grace; and Ronald Shoemaker, husband of Joan. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michele, and siblings: Mary, Hazel, Elwood, Arnold, Anna Grace, and Jane. The family would like to thank the staff at QPRC and Willow Tree Hospice for the care their mother received in her final days.
A Funeral Service will take place at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. There will be a viewing from 12-1:00 p.m. Private interment will be in the Little Britian Presbyterian Cemetery. Additional funeral parking is available at Faith Presbyterian Church. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to Willow Tree Hospice, 616 E. Cypress St., Kennett, PA 19348.
