Anthony (Tony) Stephen Weiss passed away in his home on Sunday, January 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. His doctors all agreed that he was a miracle walking as he lived eight years after being diagnosed with cancer.
Tony was born on June 5, 1943, in Brisbane, Australia to the late Stephen Joseph Weiss and Elva Mary Cooke Weiss. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Michael and sister, Kay Gagliardo. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol to whom he was married for 33 years, his brothers, Paul Weiss (Linda), Mark Weiss (Carolyn), sisters, Stephanie Jones and Joy Matthews (Bruce), as well as many extended family members, dear friends and colleagues.
Tony was a resident of Virginia Beach and attended Princess Anne High School before proudly serving in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge Tony went to work as an electrician, eventually starting his own company, Service Communications, with a business associate. Service Communications located in Virginia Beach and installed background music, public address systems, phone, nurse call and drive through systems. After selling his company, he continued to work for the new owners but eventually became a part-time consultant in the communication industry and taking some time off before he went back to work. Anxious to get back to work and not knowing what he wanted to do, Tony began a successful career in real estate. His first job was at Garman Real Estate in Chesapeake. He then moved on to Virginia Commercial Real Estate in Virginia Beach as a partner until they were bought out by Cushman & Wakefield /Thalhimer. Tony worked in the commercial division, specializing in industrial properties and land sales and leasing. He loved the industry and met some interesting people along the way, many becoming great friends.
In Tony's spare time he enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol, having dinner with family and friends. They especially loved to travel the islands of the Caribbean, many of which they repeated visits. If you were ever looking for them on December 7th, you would always find them on some tropical island celebrating their anniversary. And the week before Memorial Day you'd find them at Tony's other favorite place.Walt Disney World he loved that mouse! Tony also enjoyed playing golf, playing poker every Wednesday evening for over 35 years with the same group of friends, and just enjoying life.
Tony had two things on his bucket list to go to Montego Bay in Jamaica and Bloody Mary's in Bora Bora. He accomplished both. And finally, if you knew Tony well, you knew that his favorite saying was "Too late Nathan". And more than likely, you knew where it originated from.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1 - 4 p.m. at West Neck Village Hall, 2580 Signature Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
In Tony's memory, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
