August J. "Gus" Blaxton, 76, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Good Samaritan Home and Rehabilitative Center in Oakland City, Indiana.
Gus was born in Montreal, Canada on April 13, 1948 to the late Joseph and Margaret (Rieber) Blaxton. He honorably served in the United States Navy, stationed in Guam. After the military, Gus studied and graduated with a master's degree in theology from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He taught theology at Mater Dei for a short time and later worked as a Chaplain at St. Mary's Medical Center. Gus ended his working career as a caregiver for Homewatch CareGivers. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all.
Gus is survived by his sister, Jean Adams of Evansville, IN; brother, William J. (Jill) Blaxton of Mason, OH; nieces, Sierra Adams and Hailey Blaxton; and special friend, Mary Houchins.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve Blaxton; and brother-in-law, Alan Adams.
There will be no services at Browning Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Meinrad Archabbey and Seminary and School of Theology, 200 Hill Dr., St. Meinrad, IN 47577.
The family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan Home and Rehabilitative Center in Oakland City, Indiana for all of their compassionate care.
