Barbara Spears Obituary

Barbara Jean Spears was born May 24, 1932, in Alto, Texas, to Viron and Eula Grogan.  She grew up in Alto, Texas playing paper dolls, enjoying time in the piney woods, and spending happy days with her sister, Mary Fern. While in business school in Lufkin, Barbara met J.B. Spears, and they married on February 3, 1951.

J.B. and Barbara had two children, Melinda and Jay, who fondly remember their mother as a woman who was equal parts strength and love.  She was exceedingly generous with her resources and even more so with her deep, abiding affection for her family and friends.

Barbara took early retirement from General Dynamics to pursue her passion for antique dolls and found great success as an entrepreneur.  She owned Barbara's Dolls on Camp Bowie for many years and enjoyed multiple buying trips to Europe with her friend Carol Moody.

Barbara loved her family and Barbara loved dolls.  But, best of all, Barbara loved her Lord Jesus.  She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 12.  She and J.B. were long-time members of Benbrook United Methodist Church where Barbara was a member of the Companion Sunday School Class for over 50 years.

Barbara was know for her loving, friendly, demeanor and her incredibly optimistic attitude even while suffering through the years of Alzheimer's disease.  Barbara was a bright light in this world.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and her husband J.B.  She is survived by her loving children Jay Spears and Melinda Rogers as well as her son-in-law Truitt.  She also leaves behind grandchildren Clarke Rogers and wife Jennifer, Emily Blair and husband Christopher, Kevin Spears, and Valerie Spears; great-grandchildren Huston and Arden Rogers and Austin and Adrian Blair; and several loving nieces and nephews,
