Basile M. "Monte" Bourque, 79, of Revere, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, at Beth-Israel Deaconess in Boston.
Monte's warmth and wit brought light into the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Paula Roberts, and a close-knit family that includes his sister-in-law Elinor Roberts and her husband Steve Ogden of California, along with a niece, two nephews, one grand-nephew, and numerous beloved cousins. Monte was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Philip Roberts.
A graduate of the former Boston State College, Monte's intelligence and spirit were evident in his academic achievements and his professional life. He dedicated many years of service to the U.S Customs in the Boston Division, where his sharp mind and quick humor left a lasting impression on his colleagues and the many lives he touched through his work.
Monte's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. A lover of all cats, especially his dear Edwin, he also had an unquenchable thirst for music, reading, and the arts. He could often be found at concerts and museums, soaking in the culture and history that he so adored. Monte's love for travel also took him on many memorable trips, with Rockport being a favorite destination where he could relax and find inspiration in the beauty of the seaside town.
Those who knew Monte understood that his intelligence was matched only by his sense of humor. He was the spirited life of any gathering, always ready with a clever quip or insightful story that could elicit laughter and provoke thought in equal measure. His presence was a gift that enlivened every occasion, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to share in the joy he brought to the world.
A private service will be held at the Hopedale Village Cemetery.
