Bernard C. "Bernie" Clapp
Age 89, of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alma.
Bernie was born July 25, 1935, in Merrill, the son of Clyde and Martha (Bohn) Clapp. He graduated from Merrill High School. Bernie married Janice Kay Benner on August 5, 1956, at the Immanual Lutheran Church in Wheeler. He worked as a supervisor for Dow Chemical before retiring. During his retirement Bernie cut lawns in the Breckenridge area. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching local sports as well as Michigan games, Lions football and Tigers Baseball. Bernie helped start the Breckenridge Little League Program and has supported the program to this day. If you were lucky enough to have been teased by this "hard-ass" then you knew you'd made his inner circle of friends and had forever earned his respect. And because Bernie, was competitive and loved having the last word, he would leave you with these words of wisdom..."And the score goes up another notch"
He is survived by his children Steven (Donna) Clapp, Penny (Jeff) Anderson, Jim (Theresa Wittig) Clapp, grandchildren Jeremy (Stephanie), Justin (Kristy), Eric (Stephanie), and Joshua Clapp, Nicole (John) Anderson and Melanie (Josh) Brzak, Tyler (Andrea Goodrich) Conn and Samantha (Ryan) Baur, great grandchildren Selena, Kharley, Rayce, Jack, Joseph, Emily, Deric, Delilah, McKayla and brother Terry (Cathy) Clapp.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Martha, wife Janice, son and daughter-in-law Roger and Dianna Clapp, siblings Lyle, Betty and Mary Jane.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11 am at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge. Interment will follow at Ridge lawn cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Breckenridge Little League. I remember as a sister-in-law, Bernie used to tease me because I was so small (petite). So for his Birthday, I sent him a rubber ducky to use for bathing/showering. Don't know if he ever knew who sent it. He was a very kind man as well as a great jokester! RIP BERNIE.
