Berta Carol (Greenfield) Jackson came into this world on October 17, 1960, at Tryon, Oklahoma. Born to proud parents Hubert & Mona (Pryor) Greenfield. Berta was the first of 5 children. She lived in several states, Oklahoma, Indiana, Colorado, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky and Kansas. She attended several schools and graduated in 1978 from Tanner High School in Athens, Alabama. She was baptized on October 6, 1978, into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn by Bro. Bob Byers at Vega Dam in Collbran, Colorado. Berta was married to Bro. Kenny Jackson on November 26, 1999, at the age of 39. She passed from this life on September 23, 2024, in her home at Yale, Oklahoma with all four of her siblings by her side.
Berta was a vocal, and sometimes, loud person. In general, she was happy, bubbly and animated, especially at family gatherings, where she wanted her presence to be known. She loved her family and enjoyed being "in the mix'. At holidays and family gatherings, she loved being a part of the conversation, the laughter, games, teasing and aggravating. Berta never had children but loved her nieces and nephews dearly and made a point to pay special attention to them. They loved their Aunt Berta, and she loved them. When Aunt Berta hugged you, she squeezed really tight. She loved them and wanted them to know it. At one gathering, not so long ago, she was walking across the room and her nephew, Trenton, jumped up, wrapped his arms around her, picked her up and took her down on the floor. We all had a good laugh and still talk about the Thanksgiving Trenton "tackled Aunt Berta" in the living room. She loved aggravating and they loved giving it right back. Family holidays won't be the same without her. Berta was a very active, energetic person. She loved traveling, sewing, cooking, making craft and gift items. She had a love for caring for plants, like her mother & grandma. She had an eye for old rustic things that she used in decorating, it was "her style". Berta could be a very private, reserved person, keeping her thoughts and plans to herself. As with many of us, God gives us a special person in our life with whom we can laugh, cry, pray and confide in. That has been Sis. Ronie Mitchell for Berta. Thank you, Sister Ronie, for being a dear friend to our Berta, you were a blessing to her.
God blessed Berta in that she did not have to suffer a lengthy illness. It was 6 weeks from her last day of work until her passing. In that time, she called on God continuously and thanked him for his graciousness. During her final days, Berta often said, "I love you" and "Thank you" to those who were caring for her and those who visited her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Mona Greenfield and her husband Kenny Jackson.
She is survived by siblings: Brian Greenfield and wife Nina of Glenpool, OK. Keith Greenfield and wife Dana of Mounds, OK. Kendra Pruitt and husband Phil of Cushing, OK. Devin Greenfield and wife Davena of Yale, OK. Nieces and nephews: Skyler Ratliff and husband Austin, Carson Greenfield and wife Tiah, Seth Greenfield and wife Autumn, Winston Pruitt, Austin Greenfield and wife Kendra, Ryan Greenfield, Kelsie Rackley and husband Dakota, Ray Greenfield and wife Taylor, April Blake and husband Ethan, Trenton Greenfield and wife Bella, Kimber, Carolyn and Donna Greenfield, as well as 20 great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4PM - 8PM on Monday, September 30 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6PM - 8PM. Funeral services will be at 10AM on Tuesday, October 1, at The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Cushing, Oklahoma, with interment at Parkland Cemetery immediately following.
