Betty Jean Gray was born on December 30, 1948, in Belle Glade, Florida to the late George W. and Reatha Gray. Betty died on August 27, 2025, in Hartford, Connecticut surrounded by the love and comfort of her sisters Hannah Gray and Rose Gray.

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth "Liz" Gray; sisters, Josie Lee Portee (Clarence Portee) of Indian Town, Fl, Geneva Tomkins of Riviera Beach, FL, Hanah M. Gray and Rose E. Gray, both of East Hartford, Connecticut; brothers, Theodore Gray of Lakeland, Fl, John Gray (Althea Gray) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, George Gray (Marvette Gray) of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Will Gray of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and numerous
cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In her life, Betty never found a challenge she couldn't accomplish, a topic she couldn't master, or a loved one she couldn't empower. She understood the value of, and power in, learning and never stopped throughout her life. To say her interests were diverse would be an understatement- from business development and floral design, to cooking and electronics – if Betty's interest was piqued, she wouldn't simply explore a topic, she would strive to master it, earning certifications from the Connecticut Florists Association and graduating from the New England Technical Institute.

She instilled that thirst for knowledge in her daughter at a young age; always celebrating and encouraging her academic, professional, and personal milestones. Her sisters Hannah and Rose can also attest to her unwavering devotion to supporting and fostering their achievements; always willing to lend a hand or share her opinions (even if sometimes unsolicited).Betty's love of learning was only rivaled by her love of laughter. Gatherings with Betty, Sue, Rose, and Hannah were a masterclass in comedy: timing, delivery, and comebacks (all in good fun) were always in abundance. Notwithstanding the sibling jabs, their laughter originated from a place of joy and would not be stifled.

Nor will it be forgotten.
