Betty Harris Obituary

Betty Jean (Hammock) Harris, 89, of Bloomington passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the IU Health Hospice House with her family by her side.
She was born on October 17, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana the daughter of John and Mary Olive (May) McGlothlin. She attended Sanders, Clear Creek schools and Bloomington High School.
Betty worked in food service at Indiana University and the Hospitality House of Bloomington for many years, and then she worked at Bloomington High School North as a custodian for over twenty years before retiring. Betty was a member of the Pentecostal Faith Assembly on 11th Street.
But most of all Betty was a homemaker she loved her family and enjoyed every moment spent with them. She loved coffee, eating, and playing UNO she was the UNO queen. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Terrie (Mike) Gardner of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, David (Tiffany) Gardner; Shonna Emerick; Michell (TD) Haney; Brandy Hammock; Ernie (Natalie) Wright; Jason (Andrea) Hammock; James (Stephanie) Hammock and Gabrielle Gardner all of Bloomington; twenty-three great grandchildren, Ross; Grant; Payton; Gracyn; Kayla; Donnie; Hunter; Tyler; Peyton; Cole; Brandon; Joshua; Alec; Ethan; Austin; Brayden: Colson; Brad; Colton; Cameron, Alexi; Jaxson and Sean; and seven great great grandchildren; her UNO gang Lori; Becky; Terrie; Scarlotte; Gabi; Gracyn and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Mary McGlothlin; her 1st husband, Lloyd Hammock; 2nd husband, Herb Harris her son's, Darrell Hammock and Michael Hammock; her daughter, Trish Prince; grandson, Brian Gardner and four brothers and four sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. With Grant Gardner officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to time-of-service Thursday, September 12, 2024 also at the funeral home.
A private family burial will take place at Clover Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to Autism Speaks.
