Mrs. Betty Day Register, 93 of Columbus, GA and formerly Lee County. AL, passed away December 3, 2025, at the Memory Care Unit of Thrive at Green Island Senior Living in Columbus, GA.
Visitation will be on Monday December 8, 2025, at 11:30 am (EST) until the funeral hour at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, located at 3738 US Highway 431N Phenix City, AL 36967. The Funeral service will follow immediately after at 12:00 noon (EST). A private interment will be at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Mrs. Betty Day Register was born February 25,1932 in Columbus, GA – daughter of the late John M. Day and Jessie Hobby Day. She was the seventh of eight children. Betty graduated from Columbus High School and married Benjamin F. Register, Jr., in April 1951. During their 68 years of marriage, Ben Register served in the United States Army for 36 and ½ years. Betty moved 36 times as an Army wife while raising 3 children. She also served throughout those years in various leadership positions as a volunteer with Army Community Services, an organization devoted to serving and supporting Army families and soldiers. Her commitment to the families resulted in her receiving upon Ben’s retirement from active duty – a commendation for her hard work to improve conditions and support for the families of those who serve. After they retired and moved to Lee County, AL, Betty was involved with Ruritan and projects such as getting AED equipment in police cars and other response vehicles. She viewed her life as an adventure and enjoyed living in so many different places, embodying the motto of “bloom where you are planted.”
Mrs. Register was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lt. General (Ret) Benjamin F. Register, Jr., her siblings – Floyd Day, Johnnie Day, Jack Day, Mildred Patterson, Evelyn Powers, Opal Bartlett, Shirley Day, their spouses and daughter-in-law Malinda Register and son-in-law Jim Glovier. She is survived by her children: Jeff Register and wife Julie, Richard Register and Anne Register Glovier; grandchildren: Megan, Dean, Elizabeth (Tye) and Christopher (Pamela); as well as great-grandchildren: Isobel, Sophie, Alice and Luca; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
