Funeral services for Bill Turner, 73, of Palestine, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Derek Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery near Bradford under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Turner passed away on March 7, 2025, in Palestine.
Billy Gene Turner was born on February 9, 1952, in Dallas, Texas, to Charles Eugene Turner and Mary Ellen (Holley) Turner. He attended Farrier School in Oklahoma in 1974 and shod horses for over 35 years. Bill began his working career out of high school at Big Brown and retired as a supervisor after 39 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed working with cattle, ranching, riding horses, and roping. Pawpaw Bill was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Larry Turner.
Survivors include his children, Chance Turner and wife Deanna "DD" of Bradford, Spence Turner and Melissa Collard of Brownsboro, and Kyle Turner and wife Kimberly of Carroll Springs; his siblings, Charlotte Housley of Lake Dallas and Charlie Turner of Carroll Springs; his grandchildren, Katelynn Troquille and husband Jacob, Chase Turner, Sydney Turner, and Morgan Turner; and his great-grandchildren, Paisley Troquille and Ember Garner.
Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Pearce, Jerry Tumlinson, Art Pool, Wyatt Miller, Jeremy "Cousin Red" Gillert, and "Snapper" Pierce.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Funeral services were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
