Brian E. Barrett, 54, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at his home, with his loving wife by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Brian was born April 26, 1970, in Sayre, a son of the late Frederick Barrett and Louise (Walker) Comfort.
He was a member of the Troy Area School Class of 1988. Brian met Gerrie the love of his life and best friend of 33 years. On September 21,2024 they celebrated 22 years of marriage. Brian worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator until his health no longer permitted. In earlier years Brian was a mechanic. He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge 429, Canton American Legion Post 303, Red Run Rod and Gun Club, Kellogg Mountain/Monroeton Rod and Gun Club and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542.
Brian had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and racing dirt track cars in his earlier years. He also liked working and tinkering on just about anything. Brian loved his animals. Most important to Brian was his family and his friends, he truly cherished and cared for each and every one of them.
Brian leaves behind his wife; Gerrie, at home, sons; Christopher (Kristin) Leitner and Matthew Barrett, grandsons; Holden and Hendrix Leitner, siblings; Deb Hunt (Rex), Tina Harper (Jason), Arthur Barrett, Lori McKenzie and Dora Mills (Ricky), sister-in-law; Wendy Rosson (Ricky), mother-in-law; Geraldine Flannery, special niece; Carla (Narna) Butcher and his "adoptive" family the Heasleys.
Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by a sister; Theresa Barrett, fathers-in-law; Jack Bedford and William Flannery and a nephew; Adam Heasley.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 P.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Canton Moose, 41 Sullivan Street in Canton. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
