Kenneth Wayne Dodd, 72, of Hiawatha, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Hiawatha Care Center after a long illness. A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Doreen of Hiawatha; two sons, Todd (Keri) Dodd of Marion and Jason (Molly) Dodd of Hiawatha; four grandchildren, Kaylea and Olivia Dodd of Marion, and Everett and Loretta Dodd of Hiawatha; and a brother, Dale Dodd of Hampton.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Elvera; parents-in-law, Gordon and Dorothy Smith; brother, Don; three sisters-in-law, Sandy, Shelley, and Linda; and brother-in-law, Darwin.
Ken was born on July 17, 1953, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Elvera (Johansen) Dodd. He attended Chapin Elementary and Junior High, graduating from Sheffield-Chapin High School in 1971.
On February 1, 1975, Ken was united in marriage to Doreen Smith at the Methodist Church in Aredale, Iowa. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Ken worked many years in maintenance, beginning his career at an implant dealer where he helped assemble equipment. Over the years, he applied his practical skills in several roles, most recently with Aspect Architecture, and also with Cassill Motors and Plaza Auto Auction. He was known for his strong work ethic, his dependable, hands-on nature, and his willingness to help anyone who needed it.
A lifelong collector and craftsman, Ken loved antique toys, tractors, farm toys, lawn mowers, Radio Flyer wagons, semi-trucks, and Legos, and was a talented woodworker who took pride in creating and fixing things with his hands.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for an established memorial fund or to plant a tree in a Derecho-affected area in Ken’s memory.

Ken had a genuine care and interest in other people. This was so apparent by the way in which he interacted with others. He never tried to take center stage or dominate a conversation - he seemed to be more interested in hearing your story than in telling you his. We will always carry warm memories in our hearts of the times we spent with him, both as youngsters in school and especially over the past couple of years at our monthly get-togethers at Block 10. His kind and cheerful presence will be missed.
With our sincere sympathy to Doreen, Todd, Jason, and all family members,

I never knew anyone who was always happy and ready to hit me with some witty joke or comment the way Ken would. Aside from being filled with joy and an amazing sense of humor, he was a true leader who loved on everyone he met. I will always remember the support and grace he offered me and so many others. We are all better for having the chance to know and love him, and my heart goes out to the Dodd family as they navigate this tremendous loss. I love you all.

Dear Doreen, Todd, Jason and families I am keeping you all in my prayers. Ken and I are cousins our moms were Sisters. We lived in MN and made at least one trip a year to Iowa, as well as Lloyd and Elvira and the boys would come to MN. When we came to IA their was always a family reunion and us cousins would have tons of fun together. Years went by as we got older but fortunately Ken and I reconnected by Phone a couple of years ago and had many laughs filled conversations, fearing that time Doreen I built a bond as well. May the memories you have as a family and individually with Ken bring some laughter and joy to you during this very sad time. God has you. Through him there is peace. Ken had that peace. Thank you Doreen for sharing those times with Ken and I.

Dear Doreen, Todd, Jason and families, Ken and I are cousins our Moms were sisters we lived in MN and made at least one trip a year to Iowa, back then the whole family would get together and us kids would find lots of things to do. Ken and I reconnected a couple of years ago by phone and had many laugh filled conversations. Even with his illness he was positive and enjoyed as much as he could. Thank you Doreen for being a part of that as our bond has grown stronger as well. God bless each of you and may your memories carry you through this very sad time. Ken and Doreen thank you.

I am at a loss for words, in spite of his illness the thought of his death never crossed my mind. My heart goes out to my Aunt and cousins. I know how it feels to lose your father and how the loss changes everything. When you're a child they are immortal and invincible and that they would always be just a phone call away whenever you needed them.
