Carl Royal passed away September 26, 2024, at Cody Long Term Care.
Carl was born January 10, 1934, in Roaring Gap North Carolina to Howard and Minnie Royal. Carl grew up in the hills of North Carolina with 5 brothers and lots of family. Carl came to Wyoming April 1952 to his Uncle and Aunt Lonnie and Jake Royal's ranch. He helped them on their ranch on the Northfork and also worked at Shoshone Lodge. When he was called up to the service he returned to North Carolina to take the physical. He went into the service April 6, 1953. He was station at Fort Lewis, Washington, and was going to school for heavy equipment. The 82nd Airborne was looking for volunteers and Carl signed up. He was first sent to Fort Benning, Georgia, for jump school. They was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. April 6, 1955, he got out of the army and returned to Cody to his Uncle and Aunt's ranch on the Northfork. Carl started working at Shoshone Lodge again the end of April. On May 31, 1956, he met Loueen Baxter, at her sister's wedding in Powell, Wyoming. They were married September 30, 1956. Living in Powell Carl worked for the City of Powell. July 12, 1960, their daughter Stephanie was born. In 1961 they moved to Cody where Carl worked for the REA as a Lineman till 1967. In 1967 Carl quit the REA to become self employed as a carpenter and built houses. Carl and Loueen enjoyed many years of going to auctions and collecting antiques. For several years Carl owned and operated his own antique store. C R Antiques. After retiring from building, Carl enjoyed tinkering around the house and yard with Loueen, and spending time with a cat on his lap. Carl enjoyed talking about the family history of Moonshining. Carl always had a story to tell.
Carl is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Ray Stockhill. Also, two brother, Jim and Evelyn Royal and Clarence Royal of North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews. No service will be held. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Park County Animal Shelter, 3 Arrow Avenue, Cody.
