Carolyn Holmes Obituary

Carolyn Sue (Nikirk) Holmes, 82, of Avoca passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 7, 1942, to the late Arlie "Ikey" and Ilene Goodin Nikirk. On November 10, 1962, she married Carl Dean Holmes, and he survives.
Carolyn graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1960. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Carolyn attended the Avoca and Oolitic Baptist Churches. She enjoyed quilting with the quilting group, and most of all loved spending time with her children and grandchildren in all their activities. She also adored her dog, Ruby.
Surviving to cherish Carolyn's memory is her husband, Carl Dean Holmes; children, Terry (Dana) Holmes, David (Crystal) Holmes, Jeffrey (Dianna) Holmes, and Nancy Slinkard; sister-in-law, Sandra Nikirk; grandchildren, Candi, Austin, Layne, Elizabeth, Jessica, Lauren, and Garrett; along with several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding Carolyn in death are her parents, Arlie and Ilene Goodin Nikirk; twin brother, Carl David Nikirk; brothers, Bob Nikirk and Gene Nikirk; brother-in-law, Layne Holmes; and granddaughter, Alora Reed.
Funeral services for Carolyn will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 1:00pm at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Pastor Taylor Quinley officiating. Burial will follow at Dishman Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm, also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel in Bedford.
The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Carolyn be made to the White River Humane Society.
