Carolyn Roan Watson, née Parsons, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 84. Roan was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Larry and her parents, Elizabeth and Paul Parsons. She is survived by her son, Michael (Amy) Watson; grandchildren, Steven Watson and Brittany (Tony) Pollard; great-grandchildren, Rowan and Caleb Watson and Brooklyn Pollard; sister, Joan Baker; nephew, Rodney Baker; and many other family and friends.
Roan was born February 6, 1940, in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She was raised in Parkersburg and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1958. She was a former District Deputy President and Secretary for the Rebekah Assembly of West Virginia, Esther Lodge No. 32 of the I.O.O.F in Parkersburg. She worked for the Bureau of Public Debt with the Department of the Treasury and then moved on to a career at DFAS Columbus where she eventually retired after 42 years.
She was incredibly proud of her son, Michael, who was a Marine and then went on to raise a wonderful family. Roan enjoyed bowling and coached youth bowling when her son was young. She loved to travel, visiting Georgia and Florida as often as she could. Some of her favorite adventures were going to the Dominican Republic and trips through the Western United States with her dear friend, Pat Garwatoski. Roan will be missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2024, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg. At the conclusion of the visitation, a graveside service will be conducted at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
