Caryn G. Levine passed away peacefully on June 21 at home with her family by her side. She was 68 years old. The daughter of Charles and Diane Gruber, Caryn is survived by Arthur, her husband of 45 years; her children Katie and her husband Nick, and Keith and his wife Kairee; as well as her sister Judi and her husband Jim, and her brother Chuck and his wife Lizzie. She also has four loving grandchildren: Emilie, Chloe, Jessica, and Anne.
Caryn grew up in Nutley, NJ, attending Radcliffe Elementary and graduating from Nutley High School. She attended the University of Bridgeport, graduating in 1977 with a major in Dental Hygiene and a minor in Psychology. She began her dental hygiene career at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, worked in a variety of private dental practices, and finally at Mountainside Hospital for 18 years until retiring in 2021. Caryn and Arthur raised their two children in Bloomfield, NJ, where Caryn was a Girl Scout troop leader, Cub Scout den mother, active volunteer with her children’s schools, president of the Kiwanis Club of Bloomfield for six years, secretary of her chapter of the American Dental Hygienists' Association, and ESL tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America.
Caryn was incredibly giving of her time, energy, and love to family, friends, and the community. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, modeling and instilling values that will live on in her children and grandchildren. Supporting her family and carrying on our traditions was her first priority. She was passionate about her 44-year dental hygiene career and was a mentor and friend to her colleagues. Caryn will be remembered for her kindness, intelligence, friendliness, and selflessness. She will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church (60 Byrd Ave, Bloomfield, NJ) at 9:30 am on Wednesday, June 26. Visitors will be received at Halpin - Bitecola Brookdale Funeral & Cremation Service (1284 Broad St, Bloomfield) on Tuesday, June 25 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
