EUNICE-Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ray Anderson, Sr. will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 6:30 P. M. with the visitation beginning at 2:00 P. M. at Greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice, LA. Rev. Terry K. Anderson will officiate the homegoing ceremony. The committal service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10:00 A. M. in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings, LA.
Charles Ray Anderson was born Tuesday, August 8, 1950, to the union of Houston Anderson, Sr. and Lena Mae LaFleur Anderson. Ray, as he was affectionally called, was the 4th child of 11 children born to that blessed family. He was born in Lafayette, LA and reared in Eunice, LA. Ray accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized by the Reverend John Wilkerson at the Greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice, LA.
Ray was educated in the public schools of St. Landry Parish and graduated from Charles Drew High School in the Class of 1969. He became a diehard Gramblinite after matriculating at Grambling College in Grambling, LA. In 1969, he was drafted in the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty in the Army, Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1972 and was honorably discharged in the rank of Sergeant.
Ray became involved in various organizations like the Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Grambling Chapter of the Order of Brotherhood, Incorporated (OBB), the Charles Drew Class of 1969, and served as a baseball coach. His career spanned from Halliburton, Inc. to the plants in Lake Charles as a long time cement finisher. In those positions, he helped countless persons to get employed. He positively influenced the lives of young people and worked to get them substance free and productive.
Ray modeled the life of a changed man who loved the Lord with all his heart. Once he rededicated his life to Christ, he became very active in his home church, Greater True Light Baptist Church. He was a devoted usher and soon became President of the Ushers Ministry. Then, he was appointed as a Deacon and a committed President of the Brotherhood, positions that he faithfully served until death. He was also a dedicated Sunday School student.
Ray was reared in a very close family and adopted that value. He loved children and was every child's favorite. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandson were his pride and joy.
Charles Ray Anderson, Sr. leaves to celebrate his rich legacy and to cherish his memories, a devoted wife, Paula Hebert Anderson; 4 children: Brandy J. Anderson, Charles Ray Anderson, Jr. (Carolyn), Kyries Hebert, Sr. (Anneth) and Demetrius J. Hebert; 3 siblings: Valerie Anderson Leday (Francis, Jr.), Reverend Terry K. Anderson, and Johnny G. Anderson; 1 aunt: Dorothy Thomas Shillow; 24 grandchildren: Sparkle, Martekia, De'Lanzo, Ke'Alana, LaErvin, Dakia, Harold, Diante, Brycelyn, Zyterius, S'Zabor, Houston, Kaylynn, Kylie, Kingston, Knight, Banks, Kataleya, Kevin, Kyries, Jr., Kamryn, Demetrius K., Branson and Dallas, 32 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; 2 Godchildren: Alvin Pumpkin Poullard, Mias Allison; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by two (2) children, Adrienne Patrice Anderson Savoy and Delanzo T. Veal; four (4) grandchildren Cordero Anderson, Sheniquia Anderson, De'Ondrick Veal, and Jamaican Malveaux; parents, Houston and Lena Mae Lafleur Anderson; siblings Houston Anderson, Sr., Carl J. Anderson, Sr., Edmund Lee Anderson, Steve W. Anderson, Bobby L. Anderson, Gwendolyn Anderson Brown and Douglas J. Anderson; grandparents, great grandparents, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.

I had the absolute privilege of getting to know Mr Ray while visiting with him daily through my job. He was the kind of man who made you feel comfortable talking to him about anything. He prayed for my son, he gave me good advice about things and always said "he´s gonna be ok". Just know he touched my life in the short time I knew him. May he rest in peace in the arms of God.
