Chuck Ferrell (93) of Anchorage, Alaska transitioned from this earth on September 30, 2024. Son of John Reburn and Mary Edna Ferrell he was born on August 7, 1931 in Morganfield, Kentucky. He began his life on a farm where he and his family were sharecroppers raising and selling cattle and crops. In March of 1950 Chuck joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War with the 101st Airborne Division. He was stationed in Korea and Yokohama Japan and served in the 'Screaming Eagles' unit.
After completing his military service Chuck met the love of his life Muriel Hagan Ferrell and they were married in1952 and went on to have five children. (William Charles Ferrell, deceased, Theresa Buntain Ferrell, Susan Ferrell, Karen Jamieson Ferrell, and Lynn Ferrell. Through a later marriage he had one son, Chad Ferrell).
Over a span of 60 years Chuck worked as an iron pourer for International Harvester, (Louisville, KY); as a laborer, crane operator, trucker and dispatcher for Tri-City Industrial (Venice, CA). He attended heavy equipment operating school in Texas and in 1960 moved to Alaska where he worked as a contractor for Kelly Construction, as a backhoe operator for Kit Construction and My-Kel Contractors. Chuck branched off in 1974 and opened his own construction company (Chuck's Backhoe, Inc.) where he specialized in excavation, underground utility installations, maintenance and repairs. His reputation in this industry was stellar and he was well sought after. He often spoke of how much he loved reading the dirt and operating heavy machinery as if it was a feather. At the age of 85 and after 43 years in business, Chuck closed his company in November 2016.
During his retirement years he traveled and attended milestone celebrations with his family. Chuck traveled throughout the US, Canada, Virgin Islands, Caribbean Islands, Rio De Janeiro, Korea and Japan.
