Charles "Tommy" Ted Watkins
January 21, 1955 – November 1, 2024
ZEBULON – Charles "Tommy" Ted Watkins, 69, made his heavenly progression on Friday, November 1, 2024. A native of Franklin County, Tommy was born on January 21, 1955, to the late Charles Earl and Peggy Hinnant Watkins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa W. Reed and his sister, Kathy Ours.
Tommy was blessed with a loving family. He shared a beautiful 50-year marriage with his devoted wife, Sandra. Together, they built a life filled with love, support, and cherished memories. He was a dedicated father to his two daughters, Melissa and Michelle, who brought immense joy and pride into his life.
Tommy cherished his time at ballgames and races, where he found joy in the excitement and fellowship. He was a proud grandfather, always present to cheer on his grandson at baseball games and to watch his granddaughter dance with pride and admiration.
Following in his father's footsteps, Tommy dedicated most of his life to farming, a testament to his hard work and commitment to the land. He had a knack for tinkering and fixing things, always ready to lend a hand or solve a problem with his practical skills.
Tommy loved spending time in Pilot, hanging out at the store with all the community guys, sharing stories, and enjoying the company of friends. He'll always be remembered for Thursday nights at the shop playing ping pong. If you ever played him and scored, he probably let you.
Never one to shy away from a spirited debate, Tommy always had an opinion and was eager to share it. His love for lively discussions, no matter the topic, was a hallmark of his vibrant personality.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra C. Watkins; daughter, Michelle W. Britt (husband, Erik); grandchildren, Tommi Shae Reed and Finley Britt; brother, Ricky Watkins (wife, Jennifer); sisters, Sue Baker (husband, Jerry) and Lynn Gower (husband, Alton); his Mexican son, Dennis Tafoya ; and his beloved dog, Banks, also known as Tommy's Little Buddy.
A Funeral Service will be held to Celebrate Tommy's Life at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Pilot Baptist Church, 8103 NC-39, Zebulon, NC 27597. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:30pm – 3:00pm, prior to the service.
Tommy's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he loved so dearly.
