It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Chester A. Sobuta on September 13th, 2025. He passed peacefully at his home into the arms of his Lord with his wife and daughters by his side.
Chet, as he was known by family and friends, was the son of the late Chester S. Sobuta and Rose Devergilius. Born and raised in Pittston, he was a 1965 graduate of Pittston High School and furthered his education at the University of Scranton. Later he went on to earn his license as a certified public accountant.
Anyone that knew Chester knew he loved to work. From a young age, he helped his parents and aunt and uncle at the family business, the Sweetland Restaurant in Pittston. That work ethic continued throughout his life as he started his own business in town, Boulevard Beverage. After many successful years in business, it was time for a career change. That change led him to one of his most rewarding times in his life as a financial advisor, where he formed many relationships with clients and colleagues over the years. Chester continued to work well into retirement age as he loved talking with clients every day and found such joy working with his daughter Lauren over the past 20 years.
Chester was a devoted husband and father who loved his family more than anything. Whatever he did, was always for his family. He also loved his church and the Lord. He served as treasurer at the Second Presbyterian Church where he also was an Elder.
When he wasn't working or doing church business, you could find Chet driving one of his BMWs or cheering on the Phillies. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as a fast drive on a Saturday afternoon.
He and his wife, the former Karen Allford, were high school sweethearts and just recently celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary. They enjoyed going out on Saturday night for dinner with all their BFF's, who were like family. His favorite line was "It's not about the food, but the company you're in."
In addition to his wife, Chester leaves behind daughters, Christine A Grillo and husband Joe, and Lauren Sobuta Isenberg and husband Chris, his pride and joy, granddaughter Adriana Grillo, step granddaughter, Tallia Isenberg. Also, he leaves behind the family puppy, Buddy.
He is survived by his sister, Judy Matalavy and husband Lew, nephew Chris Moughan and wife Bonnie, and great nephews Christopher and Alex Moughan. Also surviving are many cousins. He was preceded in death by nephew Michael J Moughan.
A visitation will be held on Saturday September 27th, 2025 from 9:30am. until 11am. in the Second Presbyterian Church at 143 Parsonage Street, Pittston Pa. A service will be held at 11am. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.
