Christine Snyder Obituary

Christine Joanne Snyder (nee Bassell), 76 passed away on 03/8/2025. Born in Point Pleasant Hospital, she was a long-term resident of Jersey Shore, most recently in Howell. She passed away surrounded by her family at JSUMC, Neptune.
She was a graduate of Our Lady Star of the Sea Academy in Long Branch. While working in secretarial and technology positions at DCI, in Manasquan and McKelvey and Co., in Sea Girt, Christine earned her associate's degree from Brookdale Community College; her bachelor's in social work from Kean University; and a master's in social work from Fordham University. She began her social work career at Park Place in Asbury Park, as Clinical Care Coordinator and Coordinator of Outreach services, caring for the severely mentally ill. She was a Crisis Screener at JSUMC, and her private practice focused on victims of trauma and sexual abuse. She retired as Care Manager Supervisor for Monmouth Cares, where she provided clinical supervision for social workers and care managers serving as liaison for children for the Department of Child and Family Services. She used her education to help better the lives of everyone she encountered in her career.
Christine was a former track coach and past PTA president of Saint Denis Grammar School, and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of the Jersey Shore Modern Quilt Guild. She was an Executive Board member of the Women of Irish Heritage of the Jersey Shore, holding various positions, including Treasurer, Annual Gift Auction Chairwoman, Event Coordinator and an Instructor of the Knitting and Crocheting Circle.
Christine was predeceased by her mother, Isabel Nielsen Bassell, and father Robert Bassell, of Manasquan. She is survived by daughters Jennifer Brown and Leigh McCabe; 4 Grandchildren: Fiona, Brigid, Aidan, and Joan (all of Wall Township); sister and brother-in-law: Barbara Bassell and Thomas Carroll. She remembered everyone's birthday, celebrated all baby showers and weddings and holidays with infectious enthusiasm and generosity. She was greatly loved and will be terribly missed.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday March 13, 2025, from 4-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan, NJ 08736. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Friday March 14, 2025, at St Rose Church 603 7th Avenue Belmar, NJ 07719.
