In Loving Memory of Kay Hicks: A Life of Hard Work, Caregiving, and Laughter

Clara Kay Hicks (Kay) passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, surrounded by family, fond memories, laughter, and a few tears. She leaves behind a legacy of tireless caregiving, an infectious laugh, and a life dedicated to giving. We are comforted knowing she is finally reunited with her beloved husband, Dennis, and we imagine their reunion was filled with love, compassion, and joyful tears.

Born on September 9, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri, Kay was a small woman with boundless energy and a big heart. She spent many years as a devoted caregiver to her husband, who battled a debilitating form of MS, and her dependent son, Doug. Through it all, she worked tirelessly, always finding joy in giving to others—whether it was her famous homemade peanut brittle, birthday gifts of $2 bills, or the toys and candy she lovingly showered on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kay was best known for her contagious, boisterous laugh, which could light up any room. She found happiness in the company of her family, the laughter of her grandchildren, card games, and, in her later years, an enthusiastic love of bingo.

She leaves behind a devoted family: one Brother, Ronald Ramsey; four daughters, Sherie Evans, Pam Soelberg, Jonna Beirsdorf, and Kaylene Pace; one son, Darin Hicks; four sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Each carries cherished memories of a life well-lived. We will miss her deeply, but we take comfort in knowing she has finished her "long race." We like to think she’s now dancing the jitterbug with Dad and wrapping her arms around Doug in a heartfelt hug.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. Our family welcomes friends to join us in honoring Kay, reminiscing about fond memories, sharing a laugh, shedding a tear, and celebrating a life beautifully spent.

We love you, Momma.
