Cynthia Dyer Stanton Channer Ryder was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world too soon on September 12, 2024 at the age of 68. Cynthia bravely battled metastatic breast cancer for 13 years. Throughout her valiant fight she defied many odds and is a true example of a cancer warrior.
Cynthia was born to George Stanton Channer and Norma Jane Stone on January 15, 1956 in Cheverly Maryland. She grew up in Northbrook Illinois with her sister, Martha Channer. After graduating from Western Illinois University, Cynthia chased her dreams of pursuing a career in education in *warm* sunny California. She was very passionate about her students and made a difference in many young lives. She continued on to receive a Master's Degree in counseling from San Diego State University. She worked successfully for many years.
In 1986, at the Mission Viejo Country Club in Orange County she met the love of her life, Jim Ryder. They were introduced by her step father, George Stone at a birthday party for her mother, Norma. They married in 1987 at St. George's Episcopal Church. Together they had two daughters: Chelsea and Catherine. Cynthia loved her family more than anything. She dedicated her life to being an outstanding mother and wife.
Cynthia was a classically trained soprano opera singer. She was extremely talented, starring in many operas and musicals over the years. She was also a strong woman of faith and contributed her time singing in the choir at St. George's Episcopal Church. She truly has the voice of an angel.
Cynthia was very passionate about philanthropy. If you knew Cynthia, you know she had a huge heart and giving to others brought her great joy. She is the founder of Backyard Benefit who works closely with the Camp Pendleton Marines to help the families of service men and women who are bravely fighting for our country.
Words cannot express how much Cynthia impacted the lives of her family and the lives of others. She will forever be in our memories and live in our hearts. We love you, Mom.
